Tile Work & Backsplashes Installation in Metro Detroit
Backsplashes and Tile Floors, Set to Last
Most of the tile we set falls into two jobs. One is the backsplash behind your range and counters, where a run of tile protects the wall from grease and splashes and gives the kitchen a finished look that paint never matches. The other is tile flooring in the rooms that take the most abuse, like bathrooms, entryways, mudrooms, and basements. Floors Restored installs both across Livonia and Metro Detroit, and we treat the parts you cannot see, the layout and the prep, with the same care as the finished surface. If you are weighing tile against other materials for a room, we are glad to talk through where it fits and where something like hardwood flooring might suit you better.
Good Tile Work Starts With the Prep
A tile floor that was rushed shows it within a year. With no cement board or uncoupling membrane underneath, tiles crack where the floor flexes. Uneven mortar leaves lippage, the raised edges you feel underfoot. The wrong grout, or natural stone left unsealed, stains the first time something spills. Our crew sorts all of that out before the first tile goes down.
Tile also fits how we live in Southeast Michigan. Entryways and mudrooms here deal with road salt and slush for months, and tile takes it where carpet and wood stain or swell. Tile handles basement conditions better than carpet or wood. We tile for homeowners across Wayne County, including Livonia, Plymouth, West Bloomfield, Northville, and Northville Township, plus Farmington in Oakland County and New Baltimore in Macomb County.

How We Handle Your Tile Job

Layout and Prep
We check the surface for flex and flatness, add cement board or a membrane where it is needed, and dry-lay the pattern so your lines run straight and full tiles land where they matter.
Setting the Tile
Wet areas get waterproofed first. Then we comb out the mortar, back-butter where it helps, and set each tile with spacers so the spacing and height stay even.

Grout and Finish
Once the mortar cures, we grout, seal natural stone or porous tile, and run clean caulk at the corners and edges before cleaning everything down.
Common Questions About Tile Installation
How much does a tile backsplash or floor cost?
It depends on the size of the area, the tile you choose, and how much prep the surface needs. As a rough guide, a standard kitchen backsplash in the Metro Detroit area usually runs about $750 to $1,800 or more installed, depending on how much prep the wall needs, and tile floors are priced by the square foot. The only way to get an exact number is a quick look at the space, and our estimates are free.
How long does a backsplash take to install?
Most kitchen backsplashes take one to three days, depending on the size of the area, the layout, and how much prep the wall needs. The first day covers layout, cutting, and setting the tile. We come back to grout and seal once the mortar has set, then finish the edges. A detailed pattern like herringbone can add a little time.
Can you tile over an existing floor?
Sometimes. If the current floor is solid, flat, and well bonded, we can often tile over it with the right prep or an uncoupling membrane. If it is loose, uneven, or damaged, we remove it first so the new tile has a stable base. We check the floor before we quote so there are no surprises.
What type of tile works best for Michigan homes?
For floors and busy areas, porcelain holds up best to water, salt, and winter wear. Ceramic is a solid value for walls and backsplashes. Natural stone like marble or travertine looks great but needs sealing and a bit more care. We help you pick based on the room and how it gets used.
Do you seal the grout and tile?
Yes. We seal grout on floors and in wet areas, along with natural stone and other porous tile. Sealing keeps the grout lines from staining and makes everyday cleaning easier. We will tell you what your tile needs and roughly how often to reseal.
Do you install both backsplashes and floors?
Yes. We handle kitchen and bathroom backsplashes as well as tile floors, including the prep and waterproofing that wet areas need. Whether it is a single wall or a full room, we take care of the job from start to finish.
